It connects the ghost town of Ojuela with the entrance of its ore mine. Walking across the bridge, you have a spectacular view into the deep gorge – or just enjoy the view of the ghost town and the vast desert plains of the immense Mapimí National Park. 3 Excursion into the interior of the Ojuela Mine Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy One of the local miners will be your guide to accompany you into the Ojuela Mine, which was discovered as early as 1598. Equipped with carbide lamps, you explore several hundred meters of the drifts and shafts, which total no less than 470 km (292 mi.). Halfway, there is a small room with artifacts and a presentation showing the construction of the suspension bridge. Stone specimens, tools, and information about the miners’ life and the location and importance of the ore deposits of Durango provide a complete and very interesting picture of this economic sector, which continues to be the most important one in Durango to this very day. 8 City tour through Durango Duration: 04:00 h · Level: Easy Victoria de Durango, a fascinating desert town in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental is protected as a listed heritage. Around the Zócalo, the social center in the city, are the most interesting buildings to explore on foot.
