Native Trails MyTrails 2025 160 Jalisco 12 City Tour San Sebastián del Oeste Duration: 01:00 h · Level: Easy You take a walk through San Sebastián del Oeste, a former mining town founded in 1605. Centuriesold houses and haciendas testify to a history of splendor and to the wealth prevailing in the times of silver mining. When the mines were closed in the 19th century, most people emigrated and San Sebastián del Oeste turned into a placid small town where time seems to have stopped. The lookout of La Bufa offers you a breath-taking panoramic view of the landscape and – with good visibility – of the Bay of Banderas in the Pacific. 13 Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Zapopan Duration: 02:00 h · Level: Easy Visit the Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Zapopan. Dedicated to the Virgin of Zapopan, it is one of the most frequented pilgrimage churches of Mexico. In October each year, millions of pilgrims celebrate the return of the Virgin into the Baroque Franciscan church with its symmetrical twin towers from the 18th century. The statue of corn stalk pulp, wood chips and orchid juice, which is only 34 cm (13.4 in.) tall, is escorted by indigenous dancers on a more than 8-km (5-mi.) procession. The Virgin is known especially for conclusions of peace and as a protector against natural disaster. A worthwhile sight in the interior of the basilica is – besides Ionic columns and sculptured reliefs – the splendid main altar of Carrara marble. Apart from the tranquil gardens, you visit the associated museum with works of Mexican indigenous cultures (Cora, Tepehuán, and in particular Huicholes). 14 Walk from Teuchitlán to the Tequila volcano Duration: 02:30 h · Level: Medium On a moderate two-hour hike, you visit Teuchitlán with its zócalo, the small church, and the obsidian fields at the foot of the Tequila volcano. The exhibits of the Casa de la Cultura, a small museum, include archaeological finds of pottery and obsidian. The black, glassy rock has been mined since the times of the Teuchitlán tradition and was used for the manufacture of tools and jewelry. 15 Visit of the archaeological zone Teuchitlán Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Medium An important, but as yet untouristed archeological zone of Jalisco is Los Guachimontones. The excavations on about 19-hectares (47-acres) include ten monumental circular step pyramids, two large courts for the ball game, rectangular squares, dwelling complexes, and agricultural terraces. The assembly flourished about 200 AD and was in decline in the 9th century already. 16 City tour of Guadalajara Duration: 02:30 h · Level: Easy Visit the center of Guadalajara, the second largest city in Mexico, birthplace of Mariachi music and tequila. Your first stop is the Cabañas Hospice, the largest colonial building in America; the construction includes 23 patios, surmounted by an impressive dome. In 1997, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The center of Guadalajara is the cathedral, which is surrounded by four beautiful plazas. 17 A sailing trip in Puerto Vallarta at sunset Duration: 03:00 h · Level: Medium Enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Mexico with us on a sailing trip in Banderas Bay. The trip will go along the Malecón (the waterside promenade), whilst the red sun sinks into the dark blue water of the Pacific and turns the sky into a fiery golden color. The old town of Puerto Vallarta glitters in the most beautiful colors and you will enjoy this peaceful view along with a refreshing breeze and a cocktail on deck. A romantic moment that will never be forgotten. 18 Hiking and snorkeling at Colomitos Bay Duration: 05:00 h · Level: Medium The walking tour goes from a small fishing village to Colomitos Bay – Plumeria (West Indian Jasmine), Palm Trees and Strangler Fig Trees line the route.
