After a very demanding ascent, a splendid view awaits you. The whitewashed pyramid Santuario del Cerro Tepozteco was built between 1150 and 1350 and was dedicated to Tepoztécatl, the god of pulque. In its vicinity, you find the former dwellings of the priests. Pilgrims from all of Mexico are visiting the place to this very day – a sign of the resistance the Mexica tribes offered to the Spanish conquerors. 2 Visit of the Exconvento de San Guillermo Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy Founded in 1534 by the Augustine order, the San Guillermo monastery, currently a UNESCO World Heritage site, is mainly composed by brick layered walls, some of which are also visible at the inside of the church. Note the two monograms: IHS and XPS for “Iesus Christus” on the main facade, which represent a unique element of the XVI century in Mexico. Within the cloister you'll find figurative and ornamental paintings, as well as decorations on the vaults and columns. 3 Sightseeing in Tepoztlán Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy The town of Tepoztlán, a Pueblo Mágico and home of many artists, healers and musicians from the metropolitan area of Mexico City, is placed upon a picturesque valley, surrounded by unique rock formations and the great volcanoes of the High Plains. Walking through the cobblestone streets of the mystical city, where the ancient customs of the Tlahuica are still cultivated, you can visit the market square with its local vendors and colorful craftsmanship from all over Mexico. 4 Visit of the Exconvento Señora de la Natividad Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy Built by the Dominicans during the second half of the 15th century, the former monastery of Nuestra Señora de la Natividad, is a fine example of religious architecture of the time in Mexico. The walls are divided by a series of side altar pieces with colors that gradually fade until they reach the altar-piece hall. The compound, listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO also holds the historical museum of Tepoztlán. 5 Museo de Arte Prehispánico Colección Pellicer Duration: 01:00 h · Level: Easy Within the old walls of the monastery complex of Tepoztlán is the small Pre-Hispanic Art Museum with a collection from Carlos Pellicer. It holds part of the archaeological collection of the poet Carlos Pellicer (1897 - 1977), and houses over 1,000 objects belonging to the passionate collector, sorted and exhibited according to different themes. The many miniature sculptures, vessels, stone tablets and other objects from the Mayans, Zapotecs, Olmecs and many other primitive tribes from the hinterlands of Mexico allow you enter into past times and cultures. 2 Restaurant La Casona Duration: 02:00 h · Price: $$ The La Casona restaurant lies in the old part of the colonial 16thcentury Hacienda de Cortés, about 10 minutes by car from the center of Cuernavaca.
