You can jump from the lowest fall of about 4 m (13 ft.) for a start and then gradually approach the higher falls. Experts accompany you during the breath-taking “waterfall jumping series”. It is up to you, of course, to decide which height is the last you are going to tackle. Experience this combination of thrilling water activities in the extremely beautiful river landscape with its rocks and subtropical flora. 15 Waterfalls Tamasopo with several basins for swimming Duration: 03:00 h · Level: Easy A swimming pool with several basins in the great outdoors and fed by a series of waterfalls – the Cascadas de Tamasopo are a natural phenomenon not just to be looked at. In three places, the water rushes down a good 15 m (50 ft.) over several steps to gather in a basin that offers plenty of room for a swim. There are, however, other basins of different depths that have formed as a result of millennia of sintering and can be used for various kinds of plays. Nature thus created an open-air swimming pool for the whole family; mingle with the good-spirited Mexicans and enjoy the refreshment. 16 Visit of the miracle of nature Puente de Dios Duration: 03:00 h · Level: Medium The Puente de Dios is one of the most beautiful geological formations in the Huasteca. Amidst the tropical tree population, the Río Gallinas has not only formed an about 25 m (80 ft.) waterfall, but also created a natural bridge between the two banks, the Puente de Dios. The combination results in interesting light effects that make the basins of the waterfall glisten and shine in all colors from turquoise to deep blue. The refreshing water is well suited for a swim, and for those who dare, there are specific places in the 40 m (c. 130 ft.) rock walls that one is allowed to use for jumps. 17 Visit of the archaeological site of Tamtoc Duration: 02:30 h · Level: Easy The archaeological site of Tamtoc stretches over a total area of 175 hectares, of which only a fraction has been excavated and explored so far. The city origins go back to 600 BC and it is supposed to have been the capital of the Huasteca region. While you take a tour of the complex, you will always be surrounded by pyramid hills, unexplored structures, fascinating steles and the fantastic river landscape of the Tampaón river. You will also find the most interesting object of Tamtoc, a six-meter long and three-meter high monolith of an ancient goddess. 18 Rafting on the Río Tampaón Duration: 07:00 h · Level: Difficult Look forward to your rafting tour on the Río Tampaón in the Río Santa María canyon system. The class III rapids combined with the turquoise water, the white limestone rocks and the green hues of the lush Huastecan vegetation in the “5th canyon” leave nothing to be desired. You will stop at the Puente de Dios (“God’s bridge”) to enjoy the unique place with its many pools and freshwater springs. The river then becomes calm, and you are gliding to the point of disembarkation. 19 Hike to the Tamul waterfall Duration: 04:00 h · Level: Medium The watercourses of the Huasteca Potosina form a true highlight of Mexico – the Tamul waterfall, fed by the Río Gallinas and ending after a plunge of 105 m (345 ft.) into the Río Santa María, thus creating the Río Tampaón. During a walk along the watercourses, you see “Mexico’s most beautiful cascade” from all perspectives. Whereas in the dry season, the Tamul, glistening in turquoise blue hues, is only some meters wide, it may measure up to 300 m (nearly 1,000 ft.) wide in the rainy season.
