Native Trails MyTrails 2025 275 Tabasco 8 Visit of the Anthropological Museum Carlos Pellicer Cámara Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy The Museo Regional de Antropología Carlos Pellicer Cámara is located on the west bank of the Río Grijalva and presents an impressive collection of pre-Columbian sculptures and pottery – particularly focussing on the Olmecs and the Zapotecs. In addition, you can also discover interesting artifacts from Teotihuacán and from the Totonac, Mixtec, Toltec, Mexican and Mayan cultures. The calendar stone that predicts the end of the world in 2012 is also located here. After being completely destroyed by flooding in 2007, the museum was newly built and opened again in August 2012. 9 Visit of the archaeological zone of Moral-Reforma Duration: 02:00 h · Level: Medium The character of the inland port of Moral-Reforma on the Río San Pedro Mártir was greatly influenced by its multiple trade relations of more than 900 years’ duration as well as its political links with, e.g., Palenque or Calakmul. This is reflected in the different styles of architecture that can be studied in new buildings and reconstructions. Structure no. 14 can be considered emblematic of this fascinating archaeological zone – a double pyramid that rises 24 m (79 ft.) above the ground and is well visible from afar. 10 Visit to Parque Estatal Agua Blanca Duration: 02:30 h · Level: Medium The Parque Estatal Agua Blanca in Tabasco is a natural paradise with impressive limestone formations, lush tropical forests, and rich biodiversity. The Cascadas de Agua Blanca cascade over moss-covered rocks into crystal-clear pools, surrounded by diverse flora, including majestic chicozapote trees (Manilkara zapota) and fragrant bojón plants (Cordia alliodora). In the treetops, howler monkeys and colorful toucans can be seen, while ocelots are only occasionally spotted moving through the undergrowth. Along the damp rock walls, rare orchids such as the bright yellow Prosthechea citrina and Lueddemannia spp. cling to moss-covered trunks. Lush bromeliads and ferns decorate the branches, where hummingbirds flit in search of nectar. A special highlight is the Grutas Ixta-Ha, stunning caves with imposing stalactites and stalagmites that can be explored via illuminated pathways. 11 Visit to the archaeological area of Pomoná Duration: 02:00 h · Level: Medium Pomoná, situated at a strategic place near the Usumacinta River where the plains meet the mountains, was an independent city state in the 7th and 8th centuries. The place consisted of several subsettlements, each of which was located on a hill. All have not been explored yet. The pyramid of the northernmost settlement offers an excellent view of the entire site. The archaeological zone includes a museum, where you can get an idea of the various archaeological sites in the region. 12 Visit of the Los Álvarez Cheese Dairy Duration: 02:00 h · Level: Easy You visit the Álvarez family on their finca “Don Rodo” on the Usumacinta River. Since 1955, several generations of the family have manufactured mostly smoked cheese, but also other dairy products such as cream or butter. The excellent location of the cattle farm offers the best conditions to obtain high-quality raw materials for delicious products. 13 City tour Tapijulapa and boat trip to Villa Luz Duration: 03:00 h · Level: Medium Enjoy the extensive trip to the Pueblo Mágico Tapijulapa. The artistic town, with its white houses, red bordering and kiln-fired roof tiles, is located at the confluence of the rivers Río Oxolotán and Río Amatán – the dichromatism of the two rivers is simply fascinating. Travelling upstream on a boat, you will reach the Reserva Villa Luz, and learn more about the sulfur springs and waterfalls whilst on a walk. Back in Tapijulapa, you will visit the workshops of the local basket weavers, who produce fascinating furniture and decorative pieces with a great deal of artistic skill.
