Taking well-kept singletrack trails, we follow the spiny desert forest of the Baja California to the hills of Cabo Este. Passing unique flora and fauna against the background of the Gulf of California, we reach one of the most popular mountain bike trails in the landscape of “Ochito” – from here we follow the well-built trail and enjoy the thrilling descent. Depending on the weather and winds as well as on your condition, our tour will be 12 to 18 km (7.5 to 11 mi.) long. 41 Hike trough Buena Vista Duration: 03:00 h · Level: Difficult We take a hike to the hidden beauties of Cabo Este. Our tour starts at the large Monumento a la Bandera (Flag Monument) of Buenavista and takes us via easy, gently sloping paths into the hills of the Baja California. Time and again captivated by the spectacular panoramic views of the Mar de Cortés, passing endemic cacti and giant zalates (Ficus palmeri), and accompanied by wild donkeys and cows, we finally reach, after half the distance, the path leading us down into Palmilla Canyon, a gorge of breathtaking beauty. Enjoy peaceful moments during your walk in this remote part of nature and feel the enchantment emanating from the sounds of the desert. 42 Boat Tour Buenavista with fishing boats Duration: 03:00 h · Level: Medium In the early morning, your panga and the mobile landing on the long sandy beach of Buenavista are put into the water. Led by your captain, you explore the best fishing grounds of Cabo Este in the Mar de Cortés, with the grounds you head for varying by season. There is a plethora of fish – blue, black or striped marlins, swordfish, wahoo and gilt-head bream, tuna, roosterfish, yellowtail amberjack, jack mackerels or a tasty snapper– you only need to decide whether to fish yourself or have it done for you. Afterwards we will stop in one of the small bays, where you can snorkel amidst schools of young fish and colorful corals. Along – and time and again crossing – the small river, a so-called arroyo, the path leads us through the spiny desert forest into the heart of the Cañon de la Zorra. We finally face a waterfall that plunges several meters down into a deep pool in a huge granite basin, which is surrounded by cacti, endemic blue palms and spectacular nature. Countless bird species and mammals benefit from the life-giving oasis amidst the otherwise hostile environment. Weather permitting, nothing will prevent you from taking a refreshing swim.
