Native Trails MyTrails 2025 52 Campeche 25 Visit of the archaeological site of Dzibilnocac Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy Dzibilnocac had its heyday in the Late Classic period (600 – 800 AD), which is also the time the most important preserved building in this archaeological zone was erected. Known as “A”, “1” or “Temple-Palace”, the building shows many motives in Chenes style, e.g. the mouth of the Monster of the Earth, an important element of Mayan mythology, and the rain god Chaac. Other structures in this archaeological zone, which was abandoned about 1000 AD according to the finds of ceramics, have not been investigated so far. 26 Stop at the Mayan ruins of El Tabasqueño Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy The architecture of the archaeological zone of El Tabasqueño is very attractive. Its form determined the layout of the buildings. A particularly splendid structure is the Main Palace with its huge mask of the Monster of the Earth in the middle part of its façade. It is one of the best examples of the Chenes style. Don’t neglect to have a look at the back of the building, where cavities mark the openings of chultunes – cisterns that served the Mayas to store rain water. 28 Follow a Mennonite through Colonia Trinidad Duration: 02:30 h · Level: Easy Visit the local dairy and cheese factory as well as other traditional workshops in Colonia Trinidad. Take the opportunity to talk with some members of the community. 29 Visit of the “military” hacienda of San Luis Carpizo Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy The about 200-hectare (c. 500-acre) estate of Don José María Carpizo once was highly important for the region because of its fertile soil and the large agricultural production. Each year, more than 13,000 of these reptiles come to deposit their eggs to the beach of Punta Xen, where they are given help and special protection to preserve the species: the nests are taken to a sheltered beach area where they are re-buried. The hatchlings remain in protection against predators through the night and are taken to the beach the next day. 31 Costa del Sol Beach Club Duration: 02:00 h · Level: Easy Enjoy a short break on the Gulf of Mexico at the rustic Costa del Sol Beach Club.
