At a charrería, they demonstrated their daily work on the haciendas and showed off their horsemanship. Today, however, the charrería is much more than just a demanding sport – it is a social and folkloristic event with much dancing and singing. Thoroughbreds, the charros in their typical costumes, lovely adelitas – in short, it is a fiesta Mexicana par excellence and for many Mexicans the only true national sport. 26 Hike Piedras Bola Duration: 04:00 h · Level: Medium In the forested Sierra de Ameca near Teuchitlán lie the Piedras Bola, unusual volcanic stone spheres measuring up to two meters in diameter. A marked trail leads through pine and oak woodland to several of these formations, which were created around 40 million years ago by cooling lava. Along the way, visitors may encounter whitetailed deer, gray foxes, or bird species such as woodpeckers and hawks. The easy route makes the area an attractive destination for nature-minded hikers away from the main tourist paths. 27 Journey with the José Cuervo Express to Tequila Duration: 10:00 h · Level: Easy The train ride in the elegant black and gold passenger car starts early in the morning in Guadalajara under the motto "All aboard" and leads you through the unique cultural landscape of agave cultivation to the small town of Tequila.
