The early settlement began to spread at an explosive rate about 400 BC and became a center of power, which ruled large parts of Yucatán. The most beautiful building of Edzná is certainly the building “Edificio de los Cinco Pisos”, one of the most interesting buildings in the entire Maya culture. 23 Visit of the archaeological site of Dzibilnocac Duration: 01:30 h · Level: Easy Dzibilnocac had its heyday in the Late Classic period (600 – 800 AD), which is also the time the most important preserved building in this archaeological zone was erected. Known as “A”, “1” or “Temple-Palace”, the building shows many motives in Chenes style, e.g. the mouth of the Monster of the Earth, an important element of Mayan mythology, and the rain god Chaac. Its form determined the layout of the buildings. A particularly splendid structure is the Main Palace with its huge mask of the Monster of the Earth in the middle part of its façade.
